Please help send SPRAWL to the AWP Conference in New York this year. Every little bit counts!
Who we are: We are a group of 12 eager and ambitious writers, currently second-year MFA writing students in the Critical Studies program at the California Institute of the Arts.
What is AWP: The AWP Conference is an annual conference put on by The Association of Writers & Writing Programs, whose goal it is to foster literary talent and achievement, to advance the art of writing as essential to a good education, and to serve the makers, teachers, students, and readers of contemporary writing. The conference is the largest of its kind, and serves as a tremendously magnifying force, gathering major publishing houses, small literary presses, literary magazines, literary organizations and writing programs, and other related venues. The conference also puts on a number of stimulating and educational panels and readings, and allows for an exciting melding of literary minds from all over the nation.
(More info on AWP 2008)
Why we want to go: The AWP experience will be an invaluable one. Not only will there be a chance to make contact with a plethora of literary representatives and mingle with other great literary minds, we will be distributing our own writings in the form of a specially-tailored chapbook, and we will also be reading from that publication in a performance at the conference itself.
How YOU can help: Though we are looking for donations small and big, we would appreciate even that bit of change that isn’t going toward any use right now. Give any amount of money that you will not miss. Even that tiniest bit gets us ever closer to our destination.
Where your donations are going : AIRFARE, Lodging, Conference Registration, Food
All donors who give more than $25 to this incredibly worthy cause will be recognized for their generous contributions in the chapbook of student writings, to be distributed during the AWP conference and afterwards in the Los Angeles area.
Any interested donors: Feel free to contact us with any specific questions. If you know of people or organizations we should approach, we would love any information. We’d also appreciate any help in finding places to stay in New York, etc. Also let us know if you have specific questions on the planned itinerary and/or budget. Thanks for the support!
With your donation, please include your name, phone number, mailing address, and email address so we know exactly who to thank!

Bottles And Cans
In order to help pay for our AWP conference registration, our travel, and our lodging, the Send Sprawl Special Operations Task Force have begun a campus recycling drive. Yes, we are trying to make our way to New York one 5 cent cash refund at a time.
How can YOU help? YOU can help by:
1) Bringing your empty beverage containers -- plastic, aluminum, and glass -- to the Critical Studies Dept. on the CalArts campus. A member of our committee (more than likely, me) will be happy to take the bottles, cans, etc. off your hands.
2) Taking your empty beverage containers -- plastic, aluminum and glass -- to you nearest recycling center and donating the proceeds (note the button there to your right) to us. You can locate your nearest recycling center by visiting the following website: http://www.bottlesandcans.com
If you have any further questions about contributing your recyclables to this cause, please contact us (sendsprawl@gmail.com) for further information.
Thanks in advance for your support.
